About Memorial Day
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Originally known as Decoration Day, it began after the American Civil War.
It's observed on the last Monday of May and marks the unofficial beginning of summer.
